Mani of the Week: Zoya Gold Double Whammy

Good evening, lovelies! I hope your week is off to a good start. Mine certainly is, although I'm operating on only three hours of sleep. I can apparently pull this stunt off once a week now. I'm a pro!

My current mani is a pretty spectacular one. It's blingin', it's gold, and it's in your face. I wanted fabulous and fierce nails for the event I DJed at on Friday, Handmade Happy Hour. I had decided to use a certain eyeshadow that is also gold-leaning and sparkly, so I knew I needed my nails to match. Because I'm crazy like that.

The polishes used here are both Zoya. My base color is one quick swipe of Ziv, which is an incredibly decadent, shimmery gold. It reminds me of molten liquid gold. The sparkle coat is a Pixiedust in the color Bar. Pixiedust polishes are particularly neat because they're a matte, texture polish. If you do not add a top coat, they stay matte yet sparkly. I prefer to always use a top coat for protection, and textured polishes are distracting on my nails.

I noticed on Zoya's website that they list Bar as nearly fully opaque. I was actually a bit surprised by how sheer it applied for me. I think I did three quick coats to make it look the way it does. I can't imagine how it might look by itself. Another Pixiedust that I have, in the color Nyx, does not have this chunky glitter, and it's nearly opaque in two light coats. I suppose the formulas just act differently because of the major glitter factor in Bar.

The top two photographs were snapped in direct sunlight. Look how beautiful that is!
The bottom two photographs were taken at the same time, just after clouds obscured the sun. I love how you can better see the different color flecks in the sparkle coat.

What do you think? Is this too blingin' for you, or would you rock a wild gold nail?
